Every other year we attend a family reunion in South Carolina. Nearly a hundred people show up, most of whom I never remember. But there is one person I do remember: my great uncle.
Why? Because at each reunion he makes his famous homemade peach ice cream. If you’ve never had homemade ice cream or yogurt, you’re missing out because it is absolutely amazing.
The Best Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt Maker
The kitchen gadget my uncle used was something that he built himself, so I couldn’t exactly go out and buy one of those. After searching for a while here’s what I found:

Very Few Parts and Pieces
I went over to a local Williams & Sonoma to check this out and one thing that caught my attention was nice and compact this yogurt maker was.
There’s basically 4 parts total:
- Ice Cream and Yogurt Maker. The actual “maker” is essentially just an electric motor that turns the freezer bowl.
- Freezer bowl. This is a 2 quart bowl that the yogurt or ice cream is made in.
- Ice Cream Dasher. These are small paddles that churn the ingredients into the ice cream or yogurt.
- Lid
How Does it Work?
Now that you know all the parts, how exactly does the ice cream maker work?
Well, it’s quite simple actually.
Step 1. Around 24 hours in advance put the freezer bowl in the freezer.
Step 2. Mix ingredients.
Step 3. Insert freezer bowl into the ice cream maker.
Step 4. Insert ingredients into freezer bowl.
Step 5. Insert ice cream dasher.
Step 6. Put the lid on and hit start.
That’s it! Around 60-90 minutes later you’ll have yourself some homemade ice cream.
